Until recently, this coordination of effort was often left up to the patient, creating undue hardship on the patient, and treatments that often took far longer than necessary due to a lack of planning.

Recognizing this treatment shortfall, the dental profession has developed a new approach to patient care called Interdisciplinary Therapy (IDT). In IDT, general dentists and other specialists, such as orthodontists, oral surgeons and periodontists, form a team that work together to provide optimal patient care. Rather than relying on brief phone calls and voice mails, in IDT the team meets regularly to plan the patient’s care and oversee its progress.

The patient no longer needs to run from specialist to specialist to determine what needs to be done, but rather will receive a comprehensive treatment plan in the beginning that is a result of the team’s evaluation.

Dr. Stone has pioneered IDT in the Doylestown area and has assembled a team of outstanding professionals to serve patients requiring this level of treatment. Members of the team have taken continuing education courses in advanced restorative dentistry and IDT, and they have taken them together as a team.
